There aren't any geographical boundaries. Remember: There are wolves AND Tiges in Siberia, but wolves never dared to attack a tiger and never will. It's way to big. The Siberian Tiger is the biggest of all kinds (up to 300 kg), that is even bigger than the biggest lion in Africa.

Yes that is probably a theoretical scenario. Looking at a similar situation elsewhere may give us an idea about abilities (not behaviour, though). In Africa hyenas (4 or more), which is similar in size to wolves, often take on lionesses when trying to scavenge food. In the case of healthy male lions (similar in size to tigers) it doesn't often happen that hyenas will take them on and win. Also because hunting males are not related to a pride and are in small groups of 2 to 4 (often brothers). It will take a pretty big pack of hyenas to chase off, let alone kill, a partnership of 3 full grown male lions. Of course tigers are solitary, but still.... I think it'll take a pretty big pack of wolves to take down a male (fairly bigger and stronger than a tigress) tiger.

I think it would take 5-7 normal wolves and 2-3 alpha males for an unhurt and rested tiger.

They wouldn't the risk of injury would be to great. However it would probably take up to fifteen wolves as tigers are so much more powerfull whereas wolves normally rely on stamina to kill over long chases. It takes large amounts to kill deer like animals.

The better question is "how many wolves would die before the tiger got sick of all the blood everywhere?"
