What is it generally used for? As in governement uses and so fourth.

Mainframes can be used for any application which require a lot of data storage and to support a lot of users. Now its been used by almost all big banking and insurance companies. There is no other machine which can support this many users and handle this much data... One more thing 70% of worlds entire data is stored in Mainframes
