1. You have good experience so you will soon get a job.

2. I have met many Germans in Australia including construction workers, butchers and teachers. All of them are good people. I work with people from France, India, South Africa, England, Malasia, Singapore, Turkey and Australia. There are German clubs in some larger towns and if you join the people in them will help you with many things. There are some German language programs on radio and television (Inspector Rex is a favorite).

3. Canberra (population 250,000) is a good place for computer science but any state capital (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart) will be good for computer people. Smaller cites like Townsville and Newcastle will have some computer work.

4. Australia is not dangerous. The road death rate is comparable to that of the USA and less than that of Spain and Italy or Belgium. Some visitors have died of thirst in the central deserts recently but that was because they were careless or ignorant. There are a few poisonous animals like snakes and spiders but it is a very long time since anyone was killed by one. Male kangaroos can be dangerous at some times of the year but you will not see any in the towns. Australians do not carry weapons. The water supplies meet or exceed international standards and almost all major towns have efficient sewer systems. Medicos and dentists are trained to British standards or better and there are many modern or near-modern hospitals.

5. If you have a British driving licence you should have no difficulty in getting one in Australia. Australians are like the English and drive on the left of the road. Cars available include VW, Audi, BMW and MB. You will see the Holden which resembles some Opel models and many Japanese vehicles.

6. Good networks cover the larger towns for cellular/mobile telephones. Nearly all houses have telephones and possibly one house in four has an internet connection. There are five television networks and many commercial and non-commercial radio stations.

The RTA In Any State Town Or City Can Change Your Licence For You But If You Hold A UK Or European Licence You Can Drive In Australia Anyway. It May Be Worth Noting That A UK Licence Is Valid Till You Are 65 Whereas You Have To Renew An Australian Licence In The Same Way You Do Your Passport.
You Would Only Need To Exchange Your Licence If You Wanted To Add New Categories Or When You Achieve Permanent Residence In Australia.
I Hope This Information Is Of Use To You And I Wish You Luck In Obtaining A Job.

1) Australia is a multicultural nation, you will blend in. We especially like it when people speak english, no offence but sometimes people carrying on a conversation in front of you in another language is offensive. But we accept everyone and we ask you accept our way of life too.
2) I live in Newcastle I have to say it is the best City in Australia but I am biased.
3) Everywhere you go there is an element of danger. A common one here is the red backed spider, extremely venomous but all hospitals around Australia have the antidote.
4) Your consulate where you got your passport can probably give you an international licence. I don't know what side you guys drive on but we drive on the left.

I hope you like Australia. It is spring now but be warned our summers get very hot. We slip slop slap(slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat)

1. Australian's are pretty broad minded and will will welcome you with open arms.No matter where you go in this world, you are always going to come across one or two ignorant people, you just have to take them with a pinch of salt.
2.Melbourne is a nice city, and alot of the towns just outside Melbourne are pretty nice too.
3.Australia is far from dangerous
4.yes you can,go to the nearest Vic roads if say you are in Victoria, and take your proof of identity and your English drivers license and then they will give you an Australian drivers license.Hope every thing goes well for you.

I'M AUSTRALIAN AND I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GERMANS............ I DON'T THINK MOST PEOPLE DO, HOWEVER LIKE EVERYWHERE THERE IS THE ODD RACIST.. I LIKE ADELAIDE THE BEST, I DO NOT LIKE SYDNEY OR MELBOURNE.... HOWEVER YOU MAY PREFER BIGGER CITIES, OR YOU COULD PICK ONE ON CLIMATE, MAYBE MELBOURNE , CANBERRA OR HOBART WOULD SUIT YOU..... AND YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR LICENSE TO THE RTA(IN VICTORIA) IT HAS A DIFFERENT NAME IN EACH STATE BUT THEY ARE THE SAME PLACE, AND THEY WILL FIX YOUR LICENSE UP!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!
