tht is wht we call paranoid people. Its not their fault as well, wht shld we white folks do? the situation and circumstances now made us like this, we have fear....fear against death, fear against our old sins wht our forefathers did in the past by conquering other nations and creating racism destruction all over the world but on the otherhand we also have given alot back for our past sins, we created technology, we created better living, we creating proper laws and we will continue to create a better future for our grandchildrens.
Yes, i must agree tht i fear to sit next to a arab looking person in a public transport or anywhere, its not like i have never been to middle-east its bcs i fear they r terrorists, thts wht news tell us. The iraq and afganistan case made us even more conscious towards our own safety, we dont want to be retaliated by dieing in a bomb suicide attack.
Tht really suck but whtelse can be done?

Actually, since I'm not white (I don't let my beard grow either... a matter of personal choices) I've discovered that this current Bush-inspired wave of xenophobia and intolerance has a good side when it comes to riding a bus, subway, street car and the like. Now I can enjoy a seat just for me and place my backpack on the seat next to me. Nobody, whether white, black or stereotyped "Muslim looking" person (let alone a female) wants to sit next to me. It's not bad after all.
(Mind you, I religiously shower everyday and dress up).

People prefer familiarity, that's why. Only takes a second to smile and say hello. Regardless of the ethnicity or religion, we all have pretty much the same challenges in life.

Simple - you don't and why would you care? After 9/11 and with Muslims/Islam on the news every single day -- can you blame them? Paranoia is the state of the nation now.
