I never fall asleep straight away.
Sometimes I read, or watch TV, or listen to music for a while...
Most recently I do think a lot before I fall asleep. At the moment, before I fall asleep, I think about my future child, what s/he will be like, what it will be like to hold him/her etc... (I'm pregnant)
That is a wonderful way to fall asleep, and I always wake up with a glow and a good feeling to start the day the next morning. (Then the morning sickness kicks in - lol!)
:-)

It takes me about two minutes to fall asleep. I clear my head of the day's events. I imagine lying on a beach in the sun with a cool drink listening to the waves wash ashore. Works for me.

well when i lay me head down I'll let the mind
wonder and expose whatever is there to behold
as thought before going into deep repose .....
Sometimes i just fall asleep watching a movie,
wake up, turn radio on on let whatever the talk
show is discussing flow into my dreams, works
every time, except when i wake up and the dream
thoughts turn out to be Rush Limbaugh's stupid
voice !!!! Then i jump out of bed and yell, aaaaaaaah !

I doze off immediately these days, as I postpone bedtime far too late. I suppose I've gotten used to not sleeping alone, and I now that reality is back, I have to suffer sleep deprivation in another way..
