The test depends on whether you are comparing existing sample of cloth, for example 6" by 6" cut from clothing or perhaps equal weights of cloth requiring several layers of silk. You must define failure, tearing or rendering the cloth useless (mangled?). You must determine how to slowly load the fabrics and record weight (force) being added until failure. You must determine how to clamp the samples in a way that does not bias the outcome. Once a tear is started in a cloth it may suddenly rip, therefore you must load the samples to avoid premature tears. Good luck.
