I have this brother, who is playing college football, but has trouble trying to keep his weight up. His coach has him ON a diet of steak and baked potatoes accompanied with a leafy salad for a healthy balance. He also has him drinking milkshakes in between meals. He has gained ten pounds in two months , in spite of all the stringent physical training he does. Note: If you are lactose intolerant or are a vegetarian, this , of course will not suit you,but would be the very reason why you can't gain weight!

Slowly increase calorie intake and cut down on exercise. You should have ideally like 2500 calories a day. Gradual weight gain is the most effective and healthy as it allows the body to adapt at its own pace.

Increase your caloric content, but work out as well. Muscle is three times as dense as fat and will weigh more. Also eat right before going to sleep.
