2. TALK to them and, more importantly, LISTEN to them. You might both learn something. Do not go into the conversation including that your particular belief system is right for THEM. It may be right for you, but that is as far as it is possible to go.

Religion could be deduced depending on the clothes, books and behavior of a person. However, it is very hard to tell when just sitting on a bus or plane. Be meticulous but careful.

If you're travelling public, it IS public and religion has nothing to do with getting around. Go about your business and mind your own, and your manners. You'd freek me out if you sat beside me and said "Hello, Whats your religion?".
Perhaps I misunderstood what you were asking but it shouldn't really matter.

why does it really matter????do you like to be judged? if your curiousity is that bad then just ask, other wise don't worry.there shouldn't be a deciding factor, this is why they stopped that, to make people stop judging and accept everyone as humans not just looked at as black,white,indian,or so forth are we as humans that shallow that we now have to judge by religion

what is it you business. you can start with a compliment "you have very beautiful eyes, where are you from?"
you shouldnt judge people by their race or religion...
