Faulty zipper, or you are buying the wrong size. Try a different brand see if it happens then. If they are an old pair then the zip is failing due to it wearing away in everyday use and the washing machine.
If you want to keep them then it's shoelaces and / or safety pins time. Alternatively you could put some eyelets in and lace them up with a ribbon etc OR easy(ish) - replace the zip, your sewing machine should have a special foot for zippers

Make sure you have locked the little tab on the zipper in the main teeth zip to prevent it from falling down.

You may need to replace the zip if it still falls down.

Bet they are womens jeans- the plastic zippers are normally desinged in womens jeans with SLIGHT across zip tension, too much and it will wiggle down, too little, gravity!!
Mens zips have normally a bigger mechanism, made in metal and have a more secure latching mechanism. This enables less tension, and no gravitational effect.

Thats my problem right now, I finally figured it out ...We are gaining weight.. Yes, its right before you get to that next size. My jeans are perfect...Never fit me like this before.. come to find out .Im filling out..I walk in the store, and even kids are yelling
"Hey lady , your zippers down. Men are smiling and telling me my zipper is down. But I look fine in my jeans.. So I tried a safety pen at the top of the zipper.. But when I sit the pen pop open.. It's not the jeans, its me. So I cut back if I want to keep these cute jeans. The zipper is your first warning!!!!You still have time.

My friends sister had a great solution!get one of the hoops of your set of keys or a key ring and then hook it through your zip and when you pull up the zip put the hoop around your button! So easy and its up for the night! Hope you understand what I mean!

You should be able to sip to the top and "set" the tongue by pushing it towards the zipper teeth.
But sometimes you just get a bad zipper that won't stay up no matter what! SO make sure you wear cute underwear.

Does sound like you got a cheap zip.
I have had same problem...and I like the tie string idea...I had used pins in the past, and while I didn't stab myself, had problems getting them undone when I needed to get out of the jeans!
If you like the jeans, just have a new one put on...you can even buy it yourself and take it to the laundrymat or whatever to have it fixed.

I thought it was just me! Been happening for years to nearly every pair of trousers I own. I get them replaced and it happens over again so I give the trousers to a charity Shop and buy new ones. I'm quite skinny too - can't make it out.

Tie a small loop of cotton through the zip - there's usually a hole in the slider. Then hook the cotton over the button. It should hold it in place. I used to use pins and invariably stabbed myself.
