Because the small area of the stilletto heal means that the weight of the person is more concentrated in a smaller area of the floor. Thus, the probablity of damage to wooden floors is greatly increased.

for the same reason some buildings actually have rules in their bylaws where you MUST have an area rug. It is to cut down on noise on the floor below of people walking around... that's all. There's no complicated physics involved, unless you're wondering why only stilettos--the small point of the heel sounds like a hammer tapping the floor whereas the soft sole of a shoe does not.

The force exerted by a mass is distributed evenly over the area of contact.

With a stiletto heel, this force is concentrated at the tip of the heel. This increased force can damage certain surfaces, such as wooden floors. Moreover, as we walk, the first point of contact is the heel. At that point, the whole weight of the person is concentrated on that 0.5 sq. in. of heel.

It depends on where I'm going and what I'm wearing as far as clothes. There is a place for both. I prefer the comfort of tennis shoes or sandals. In cooler weather I like to wear my boots, but if it was warm enough I'd wear sandals ALL YEAR!

I'm not a physics expert but it simply comes down to the extreme pressure under the heel. The woman's entire weight will push down on an area smaller than her fingertip. Check the site below for actual math.

Scientifically, my boyfriend can answer this question, BUT he is cooking my dinner and knows that if he stops doing this then the pressure of my stilleto heels will be felt all over his back.
Will pressure him to answer this question after dinner.
