The tree grows from where the foundation meets the ground. Last year I cut the tree but it is back this year. Do not think I can dig out the roots because they are too far down. Anything I can use to kill them???

Motor oil - but that will contaminate the soil as well.
Salt is best. Dissolve as much salt as you can in a bucket of warm water. Water the tree with this. Shouldn't have to do that more than 10 days or so.

Get a drill and large drill bit and drill several good size holes into the stump. Fill the holes with rock salt and keep filling it will take a bit of time but the salt will rot out the rest of the tree.

We had a two pine trees in the front of the house that the roots were coming under the foundation of the house and we did that - found it on the Internet as a natural way without harsh chemicals.

To KILL a tree, cut it down in the warmest time of year, when the sap is running...and pour Roundup on the cuts. When you make the cuts when the sap is running, the tree will "bleed" to death...the Roundup will get the roots.

To prune a tree and NOT kill it; do it in the late Fall or Early Spring BEFORE the sap starts rising from the roots.

Any brush killer should do the job. Go to your local farm and home store for the best selection. Round-up kills everything it contacts and is designed to be sprayed on foilage and absorbed throughout the plant. It will work straight when poured on open fresh cut stump. Tordon is made for woody growth and can be purchased as Tordon RTU (ready to use) without an applicators licence. It can be sprayed on foliage or fresh cut also. Either one takes about two weeks to work completely. That is to kill the roots. They'll still have to rot away. You can speed this along with copper sulfate sold as stump remover or root killer for septic lines.

I had the same problem. After cutting for a few years, I put a little full strength Roundup directly on the cut surface. They never grew back. You could try diluting it according to the directions, but I only had a little left in the bottle so I dripped it on full strength.

Tordon is the best you can get. You may be able to get it at an ag supply store. Stores like Wal-Mart don't sell it. Farmers and ranchers use it to kill the roots of trees growing along fence lines and in other unwanted areas.
