I am very much in to reading Historical fiction.

At the moment I am into Ancient China or Imperial China.

I have read Secrets of Jin-Shei and Embers of Heaven by Alma Alexander and have also read Empress Orchid by Anchee Min.

Can anyone recommed any similar novels, but discount Embers of Heaven as that one was more about Republicans and Nationalists. Revoulution and such.

If you are into reading about wars there are some really good ones on the civil war and WWI by Jeff and Michael Shaara. The Killer Angels, Gods and Generals and the Last Full Measure tell the story of the civil war through the eyes of it's generals and gives a good idea about what was going through their heads during the war and really explains how they felt about fighting against soldiers they fought with in the mexican war. On WWI there is To The Last Man which details the both the air combat through the eyes of the red baron and some of the american aces and follows the common "doughboy" through the war as well as showing General John Pershing, the American forces commander, through events. They are all really good reads, although if you don't like reading about war it is a bad suggestion.

These aren't China-themed, but they are some of the best historical fiction I have read:
Matthew Pearl's "The Dante Club" and "The Poe Shadow"
Tracy Chevalier's "Girl With a Pearl Earring"
Tobsha Learner's "The Witch of Cologne"
Kathryn Lasky's "Beyond the Burning Time" and "Blood Secret"
Elizabeth George Speare's "The Witch of Blackbird Pond"

W.E.B. Griffin has written some somewhat good "historic fiction" novels that deal ordinarily with the protection stress. a good sequence to apply could be his Brotherhood of conflict sequence. The sequence follows a forged of characters from WWII in the path of the Vietnam conflict, and is nice interpreting regardless; in spite of the undeniable fact that, each and every e book could stand on my own while comparing the historic accuracy of the historic past activities. I checked lots of the archives out as i replaced into interpreting the sequence for the 1st time, and numerous it replaced into traditionally precise, albeit "artistically adorned" for entertainment cost.

You need to read "Wild Swans". It discusses three generations of women as they live and survive China during the time eras when Mao was taking control and how they survived once he had. Very thought provoking and an excellent form of seeing history through literary eyes.

Another one that doesn't have anything to do with China - 'Stonehenge', by Bernard Cornwell - a work of historical fiction about the building of the title monument.
