I'm not going back to Russia, Iraq, or the dirty rock I crawled out from under. I'm staying right here. and if you don't like that then maybe you should be the one who goes back to wherever it is that you come from.
failing that, maybe you should listen to what people say, think about it a little bit, and give a considered response instead of just closing your ears and eyes.

I never say such a thing, but all too may people do. Some Christians say non-Christians should leave the land. A PeTA nut told a Basque who had rooster (I won't use the more common term, for it's censored by YA) fights to return to "Basque Land". This displays ignorance in several ways. There is no Basque Land, and PeTA has no power to say who lives here.

No. However, if people immigrate to a new country for the right reasons they appreciate the culture of their new country and work to become part of it. It is the responsibility of the new country to help the new comers in this pursuit. It is not the responsibility of the new country to modify its culture to please the immigrants. If an immigrant discovers that he doesn't want to live within the limits of his new country's culture he has a decision to make. Assuming he stays within the law, he can ether try to change the culture, learn to live in his new environment, or go elsewhere.
If he immigrated with the intention of changing his new county's culture, or to live off the labor of his new countrymen, then he immigrated for the wrong reasons and the new country owes him nothing.

I have never felt the need to answer anybody like that :-)

Its mostly said by people who accept defeat in an argument. They have nothing else to say, and wouldn't like to be embarrassed! Its as good as telling the person that they've nothing more to say and its actually them who are willing to leave, if given a chance!

For people who answer like this, try saying something more diplomatic like, "Dude, think otherwise!" or "There is a lot more to it than that." or more simply "Hey, can we speak of something else?"

If inevitable, just distance yourself from that person.
