I went to Stockholm earlier this year (June) for a visit and would 100% recommend it. It is a little on the expensive side but that would be the only negative point.
Its clean, the people are friendly (and beautiful!), there is lots to see and do, good public transport and lots of nice places to eat.
Make sure you get a Stockholm card - it gives you free entry to most tourist sites (including Skansen and Vasamuseet) and free transport (including a few boat tours).

Stockholm is a great place to visit in the Summer, it really comes alive. In the winter it is a bit cold, obviously, but also alot of the attractions close down.
If you like water it is really special, but come for long enough that you can explore the archipelago a bit on some boat trips.
Come in the Summer and you will be really impressed. Also it is a couple of hours flight from most of Europe - which means it is more expensive to get to than other cities, but also that the Easyjet Stag Night groups have not taken over !

Definelty, lovely city, very scenic. If you can go in winter, you can iceskate the streets and warm up with lovely hot choclates. Food and alcohol bit pricey, but a trip round the archepilego is intresting....
