I think it tells us consciously or unconsciously were we belong, what behavior is acceptable, sets up parameters for goals and expectations. We tend to feel most comfortable around people of our same class. Not to say most of us dont want to mingle with other classes, just that we can be more ourselves when within our group. We don't think so much what we are going to say or do beforehand. We are familiar with our rules are less concerned with making a mistake.

If a person believed that their identity was fixed by their social class, then that person would fall into the trappings of that particular social class. For example, a person who was born into a working class family/social group, may be influenced by the dominant factors and beliefs of that class. However, I do not think that a person's identity is fixed and therefore, cannot be changed.
Identity
1a) sameness of essential or generic character in different instances; 1b) sameness in all that constitutes the objective reality of a thing: Oneness.
2) The distinguishing character or personality of an individual.
Social class refers to the hierarchical distinctions between individuals or groups in societies or cultures.
In sociology and political science, the notion of social identity is individuals' labelling of themselves as members of particular groups -- such as Nation, Social class, Subculture, Ethnicity, Gender, Employment, and so forth. It is in this sense which sociologists and historians speak of a national identity of a particular country, and feminist and queer theorists speak of gender identity.

what are you writing a paper or something? social class has a very profound effect on our identity, so much so that books are written about it, coincidently enough I just finished the great gatsby, where the desire to marry a particular girl gives gatsby the motivation that skyrockets himself out of his social class. People get stuck in social class and families spend generations in them, for others there is an ambitious charge to attain the next or even higher social class, people always talk about not marrying out of your social class, which is somewhat true as you have different standards, are raised different ways, differnt ideals and convictions, social class also keeps the division of labor where it is, there is much more to this but I think you need to do some research instead of posting questions

Social classes influence the people who are part of them in all aspects of their lives. Not only what and where you consume, but who you make friends with, the places you go, how you talk, the music you listen to, and many other factors. Being a middle class person for example, might make one feel confortable eating in certain places and not at others. You might not want to eat in a place filled with people of less purchasing power because you might feel out of place, as if the codes were not your own. The decisions we make economically and socially can be identified as those pertaining to a certain class with specific behavioral patterns. Nevertheless, in social sciences it is very difficult to establish general laws.
