Every religion teaches us a lot of lessons, habits, mannerisms both verbal and non verbal. We exhibit all this in our beliefs actions both verbal and non verbal. By certain values or traits that one shows we can categorise them into what religion they belong. Almost all religion teaches good habits when we posses them it makes us stronger and healthier individuals of the society in-turn we our identified as morally stable people.

It doesn't really...can you have identity when you can only believe what an old document says? It often seems like people with religion have trouble forming ideas for themselves. They can't understand anything that might happen outside of what they have been taught. The bible doesn't talk of dinosaurs so how could they have possibly existed. The Bible talks of creationism, so how could evolution be part of God's wonderful plan?

I know...these are well-used blanket statements and not every religious person fits the mold I have presented. It just appears sometimes that identity and religioun don't often work well together...

religion can influence identity in the same way that growing up in a culture can, I currently live in utah, and have dealings with many mormons, that is an identity with out question, it is a culture, in some ways it is like being an american in a different country, when something is such a part of your life you become it and it becomes you thus identity
