Hi. I recently had a IUD put in me about 2 months ago...other than really bad cramping the first couple of days after it was put in, i really had no side effects. I have been loving it until recently when i had my first period since it was put in and the string came down and its has now been 2 weeks since my period and the string is still clearly present and is hurting my husband during sex. Is this normal? I am thinking about getting it removed for the simple fact that it is putting a damper in my sex life but was wondering if this is normal or if its just me or if anyone has experienced this before? thanks.

1st off do check that you do not feel the IUD itself all you should feel is the knot at the Top which is what the DR should have showed you to feel for.

2nd its normal that as you go thru your cycle for your uterus to drop and making the strings feel as if they are longer than before which seems like this is what your experiencing you have 2 options

1. Have the Dr cut them shorter but know that if you do it may be difficult at the time of removal as that is what they use to remove it. But again your DR probably left a lil more just in case so yous should be able to have them snipped.

2. if you choose not to like i did or for the mean time you can wrap your strings around your cervix and he will even ask you if you still have it!

It seems as if your IUD has come down! Go to the doc immediately to have it removed. Don't be put off by this, have it reinserted.

IUD means inter uterine device, meaning it should be in your uterus. If it is "hangng out" you need to get to your doc and have it checked. If it is not placed correctly you can get pregnant.
