Barring a full-out bachelor's degree, I'd suggest you identify the language(s) you wish to learn (which in turn may be influenced by what kind of prgrams you 'd like to write). After that, you can either go into a short-course (several months) from a reputable school or go into self-study (if you have the discipline, while talent may be needed in programming, a large part of it is skill-based and may be learned or mastered with a lot of practice).

Either way, I'd suggest you have your own computer, programming software (for practice), and internet connection (for when you're stuck).
