I'm not sure I understand your meaning. Generally speaking, I pay attention to other people's opinions, but it takes a good bit to convince me. If someone comes up with a powerful argument for a different point of view, however, it is possible to change my mind.
Is that what you were talking about?

Hi Kimberly,
'Tolerating' other opinions could be either:
1.) Listening and taking the time to understand their opinion.
2.) Hearing them but not becoming emotionally involved in their line of reasoning.
'Opinions' likewise can be owned as either:
1.) Flexible - open to change
2.) Concrete - fixed, closed to change.
Having categorized the two terms 'tolerate' and 'opinions', I think it's safe to say:
If a person is listening and understanding various lines of reasoning for other opinions, and who's own opinions are flexible and open to change, they may find that their 'opinions' are constantly in a state of flux. I wouldn't describe that as 'crashing down' though. It's more like the movement of a river - finding it's course through a natural movement.
A person who's opinions are concrete, and who does not become emotionally involved in lines of reasoning, may find that only something like an earth-shattering event will change their opinions. In this case, yes it would be like a crash. It would involve no true understanding and reasoning. I think it would be a foreign concept for their mind to comprehend and accept.
That's just my opinion though. :-)

I once heard it said (sorry, I can't remember just where right now) that being educated means being able to hear people talk about anything without getting mad or losing your cool.

What? As if allowing others to express themselves will cause you to not have any ideas of your own. Are you stupid or just brainwashed?
