If the joint is stiff then she will get pain when she stretches, the injury has caused the ligaments to scar and shrink. Stretching them back is a slow process and yes it will cause some swelling coz the ankle is being worked quite hard. The secret is to do little and often I have found (I have the same problem with my elbow after a nasty break). I found that applying heat to my joint both before and after doing my exercises was very helpful in minimising pain and swelling.
If the swelling is really bad she should talk to the physio, perhaps she needs different exercises.
Wishing her a complete recovery.

I still have pain two years later and I have to have an operation. My physio said that the pain won't harm the ankle. I'm not too sure. If her ankle swells after exercise, maybe she needs to rest it more. I would.

Only time can heel this sort of pain. Apply olive oil and massage the ankle (this soothe you) and do the exercise daily without fail. If it still does'nt work out then refer another doctor.

perhaps you're basically truly tiring ur leg muscle groups, as quickly as I jog and get previous the snapping factor the place u no longer experience like ur legs are drained, basically kinda there and conserving u shifting. my legs would be numb and sore and virtually painful on the top and take slightly to pass back to typical.
