A Jack straw question?

Did any body actually listen to what the man said? Why do people deliberately change the words of others, to put forward there own agenda. I listened to the news this morning and a veiled woman stated that Straw is refusing to talk to wearers of the veil.When did he say that ?

I agree totally with what you are saying ..I also agree with Jack Straw I too find these veiled people intimidating..lets face it with the big shapeless black coats and all covering veils its could be bloody Jack the Ripper underneath ....

Let's say a muslim woman is elected as an MP. She represents the party that is in power, and is given a cabinet job. Would the press be happy if she always had her face covered with a veil.

What you have to remember is the press are just low life scum who will print what they like.

I think Jack Straw is entitled to ask them to remove their veils, but they have the right to refuse.

We were talking about this the other day. It seems that the "Muslim" thing is the new racism. Everyone has an opinion and everything is being deliberately blown out of proportion by the media.
A load of WASPs sitting around trying to prove to other WASPs how tolerant, liberal and clever they are by talking an issue to death without a care that the very people they are talking about are being more marginalised and alienated than ever before.

I listened to Radio4 and of course Jack Straw did not say that he refused to talk to veiled women. The media always takes something and blows it up out of all proportion!In Victorian and Edwardian times in Britain and Europe, it was common for women to be veiled. Sometimes because they were bereaved sometimes to be mysterious and sometimes to get away with shady deals. I say let women wear what they feel is best for them, the more you condemn something the more you encourage it! As for causing problems by not seeing the whole face, we should not forget that eyes are the window to the soul

Mulsims like her are going to end up making a bed of nails for all Muslims..if they do not stop all this fanatical behaviour.. Comments like that from that Veiled women will not help the Law Abiding peace loving Muslims - one bit.. It will only vent anger from rational British citizens..

Jack Straw is correct, in Britain we have a culture of face to face, eye to eye contact. Where someone can't look you in the eye we feel them to be less trustworthy. It is quite in order that Jack requires this to be respected. Muslims who disrespect our culture should be forcibly expelled from the country

A typical Muslim reaction this, they will milk it like all the other statements that they disagree with.

It is time the Muslim population in this country adopted our culture and stopped trying to impose theirs on us.

All that is happening here is the divide and resentment is being fuelled by the Muslims themselves. Why can't they see this?

Muslims are to touchy again,go to a muslim country and try and be a Chistian see how far you would get,in the begining they came to this country for a better way of life. Now they want to make it exactly the way it was in there own country it is time the secound and third generation muslim in this country to wake up either they want our way of life if not go to live in a muslim country.Our values are different dont try and change us we should take the same stance as Australia if you want to live like us you are welcome if you dont then sod off

As you say, to push forward people's own agendas. What point would it be to people to have 'an open and fair debate' about anything, because most people fear giving up what they already have or examining their own behaviour.
