don't be afraid. Nothing to be afraid of.! Remember one thing nd that is there are more accidents on the road than there are in the sky. If you are nervous take a tablet to calm your nerves though really there is no need. There is a lot of hustle and bustle when you first get in the aircraft but it settles down. You are given a boarding card which has the No. of your seat on it. the air hostess or flight attendant will guide you to that place. You then put some of your luggage in the container above your seat and settle down in your seat until everyone else is sitting. You can pick up a newspaper or a magazine to read during yor flight.. Sit and put your seat belt on. Lights will come on in front of you giving you instructions like "please put your safety belt on" "you may take your safety belt off" "safety belt" sign on during flight means that the flight will be slightly bumpy but that should not worry you because it is usually no more than a slight bumpy car ride. Once you have settled the attendant will speak to passengers showing them how to use the lifebelt and breathing apparatus in the event of an emergency (very rare). After this the attendants will come round with a cold drink of orange juice....later on in the flight....abot half hour after take off you get your first meal according to the time of day...you have a small screen to watch a film on your arm rest which you ease out yourself. There are lights to call the attendant if you need any attention or help in any way...drinks etc. There are toilets ahead of you and toilets at the back of the aircraft also. Once the meal is over if it is evening the lights go off for you to relax or take a nap. Meanwhile a film will be put on for your entertainment. You are also given earphones to listen to online music and there are different channels to chose from. If you are on a long haul flight remember to take little walks periodically so that you dont get cramp. Exercise your legs whilst sitting. some airlines give you socks to wear so you can fly in comfort removing your shoes.
When the flight actually takes off the plane moves very slowly to get into position for its take off . Once it is on its take off path the engines rev. the flight attendants stand at the doors of the aircraft confirming procedures. When the aircraft has enough power it speeds quickly along the runway and is off in the air in a few seconds. the plane will tilt at an upward angle for a while till it reaches the height the Flight Operations Manager has told the pilot to reach. Meanwhile in the cockpit the Commander is taking instructions from the Operations Department of the airline and also from the Air Traffic control. Once it has attained the altitude the Operations Department has instructed the Commander to reach the plane straightens out and everything is ok until you land at the stopover point or your destination whichever comes first. Some people experience pressure on their ears...babies and small children inevitably do and cry. The feeling is only that your ears are blocked and you can remedy this by sucking a sweet or swallowing or putting in ear plugs though this is not necessary in most cases. There is nothing to fear and you will be ok. Hope this has helped you. :) Have a lovely and safe journey. God bless.

I have to fly a lot and I always have that happen to me. The first time it happened. it was so bad that I never wanted to fly again. It felt like my ears were filled with cotton, and no matter what I did I could not relieve the pressure. I walked around for about a week feeling like I had the worst ear infection in the world. Then I learned a tricked from a veteran flier. Hold your nose, close your mouth and blow really hard, and I mean as hard as you can. Don't let any air out. You will find that the pressure in your will equalize instantly. There are many other ways, (I tried about 20) but the above is the only one that has ever worked. Please don't forget this tip. Maybe write it down and throw it in your bag. Have a fun trip. And bring some antacid if you plan to eat on the flight. Everything people say about airplane food is TRUE. I have flown over 50 times now, and the only time I had a GREAT meal was on an Italian airline.

The odds are much greater that you will be killed in a car crash on the way to the airport. Seriously there are thousands of domestic flights every day just in America alone, and a plane crash is so incredibly rare it makes for a major news story on the very rare occasions it happens. Whereas there are thousands of fatal car crashes every single day.

When the plane takes off you will feel acceleration no greater than being in a fast car. Then you take off. The only scary bit is that soon after take off they sometimes bank to put themselves on the right heading.

Other than that the only other scary thing is turbulence. Some times the aircraft can jump around a bit in the air. But you will see the cabin crew wandering around passing out drinks. If something weird was going on, you'd see them looking worried.

They usually have alcohol on the flights, so a $5 mini-bottle of wine might do the trick. Once you get to cruising altitude you can listen to your iPod or play with your PSP. This will take your mind of being in the air.

Flying is one of the safest ways to travel, you will be fine.

no need to worry at all! remember, an aggressively driven family sedan can outgun a passenger aeroplane in initial acceleration.(for that matter even the fastest fighter was pipped by a Ferrari) most of the time you will figure it as a sudden stoppage of vibration followed by some easy tilting of seat as the aircraft climb up to its altitude. on touchdown there may be some additional noise from the thrust reversal of engine(for breaking purpose) don't know why people compare it to roller coaster ride- i am not very much comfortable on one but i never had any such feeling on a flight. any case when you are on your first trip be candid and ask the ground staff for guidance mentioning that this is your first flight.they will advice you on all formalities like checking in.if you are boarding from a small airport they may personally guide you through the whole thing.

Flying is fun, don't be scared, you're more likely to die in a car crash than on a plane. Drink plenty of water a couple of days before your flight and on the plane. The cabin air is very dry and can dehydrate you. I also recommend taking Airborne everyday for a few days before to boost your immune system. You don't want to get a cold while on vacation. Bring a really interesting book if you're scared.

It may be out of left field, but seeing you have a computer, access a flight simulator programme and practice take offs and landing and you will have a better "View" on flying, knowing how good these pilots and crew have to be to get you from A to B. Flying is the best 'feeling' knowing you are free of all earthly ties, feo just a short while.....ENJOY!!!!

Hi there. When you start to take off you will get this rush feeling. like when the rollercoster is about to take off down the shoot but not quite that scary. actually sorry i brought that up. Ans there will be a little turbulance like when your car goes down the road and you can feel the lines in the road. Nothing too bad. Just sit back breath deep long breaths to relax yourself. I always found take off the most fun.

planes taking off and landing are fine. They are just... nothing...
But its the ""shaking"" when flying scares me somehow.
I have been taking planes every year for 13 years. i m still scared.@@
Just hold on to something and listen to musics OR... just ... sleep before the plane even move.
