Why is Halloween derided, called childish, called pagan, deemed unecessary, when it represents and gives catharsis to one of the major psychological issues we as human beings have to deal with?

That is an excellent point.
Until they figure out a way to put Christ into Halloween (please don't let that ever happen!) the fundy Christians will continue to deride it, as they do anything that's not shoved down their throat by their leaders.

The mass population of the Earth is either Jewish or a descendant of that faith as in Catholic, Baptist or some other Christian belief structure. In the last 3000 years these people have felt that they have been persecuted begining with the start of the roman occupation of many countries including the middle east.

Well, a great defense is a great offense and the Christians turned the tables with rioting. Constantine is best remembered in modern times for the Edict of Milan in 313, which fully legalized Christianity in the Empire, for the first time, and the Council of Nicaea in 325; these actions are considered major factors in the spreading of the Christian religion. From this point on, Christianity was the ruler and had the power to somewhat suppress other religions, especially paganistic ones.

Paganism (from Latin paganus, meaning "a country dweller" or "civilian") is a term which has come to connote a broad set of western spiritual or religious beliefs and practices of natural or polytheistic religions, as opposed to the Abrahamic monotheistic religions. "Pagan" is the usual translation of the Islamic term mushrik, which refers to 'one who worships something other than The God of Abraham'.

Therefore the first commandment came into play as "Thou shalt not have any other Gods before me.". This is the basis of condemning all other religions as false and persecuting those who do not follow Jesus and his teachings.

As Halloween was originally from the Celtic religion of Wicca and originally called Samhain. This was then deemed a satanic ritual where the people dress up as evil spirits and demons to worship the devil. When in actuallity the ritual was to scare off the evil spirits so they could reap their crops without interferrence for harvest.

Pope Gregory IV standardized the date of All Saints' Day, or All Hallows' Day, on November 1 to the entire Western Church in 835. There is no primary documentation that Gregory was aware of or reacting to Samhain among the Celts in the selection of this date. However, it is widely believed that the day was meant to correspond closely to many other Pagan festivals and to "Christianize" them.

Many modern day Christians belief that Samhain is still a satanic festival though and do avoid the festivities of what has commonly become known as Halloween.
