This is a very serious question as if they are allowed to wear their Burka when the picture is taken or when they go through passport control who is to know who is lurking under there? This is the method John Simpson, the BBC reporter used to enter Afghanistan illegally in the time of the Taliban control

I think the key thing here is how many passport/immigration officials are going to risk being seen as racist etc by asking women wearing the burka to show their faces?

This is why I dislike the ACLU because they fought for a muslim women to be allowed to wear hers for a picture for her DL. They won and you cant see her face in the picture. Now anyone can just wear one of these burkas and pretend to be someone they arent.

with regards to garrets answer, that is so stupid! its taking being poilitically correct too far when people put national security at risk just to allow someone not to show your face on a passport - its like a general passport for who ever wants to use it, if i were a islamic woman id get a few mates together and use one passport between us! lol save some money

The new UK passport regulations state you have to see your full face in the picture - they return your application if they can't see you.

I'm not sure how it works going through airport security etc. I suppose they have the authority to ask you to uncover your face to compare you to the picture

They are required by law to remove anything that can hinder an official's ability to identify them from their photie - this includes spectacles, hats, veils and yes - burka's.

They do, however, have the right to have their picture taken in total darkness with no flash.

Strange, isn't it, how many of them go by the name of "black cat in a coal mine"?
