You basically add numbers together according to a system (Am not sure if there is a system or multiple systems) until you reach a single number which is then used to assess someone. So 4 might be a guy who likes to work with his hands or whatever (obviously more indepth than that :)).
Of course, it is bullshit. They are purposefully vague (like horoscopes etc) so that they apply to anyone and so that way people are likely to say 'oh yes, I am like that'. It's called the Barnum Effect and as he said, there is a ****** born every minute.
