George Santayana
George Santayana (16 December 1863 in Madrid, Spain – 26 September 1952 in Rome, Italy), was a philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist. A lifelong Spanish citizen, he was raised and educated in the United States, invariably wrote in English and is considered an American man of letters. He is perhaps best known for his oft-quoted "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." from Reason in Common Sense, the first volume of his The Life of Reason.
