Consuming food brings energy into an organism. Sexual reproduction requires the spending of energy. We have to pay to play, so to say. We must accumulate more energy than we spend. Or, we go broke and fail, as individuals or societies.

I'm just reading a book that states that the whole development of intelligence and civilization was driven by sexual choices more than survival. When people hear "survival of the fittest" they think only of adaptations that help you survive, but it's actually two parts: the adaptations that help you survive AND adaptations that help you procreate. For example big teeth help you survive, but heaving a very colorful tail (in case of a peacock) helps you find a sexual partner and pass on your genes. According to that book, our intelligence and the gift of speach didn't really help us in surviving until 10.000 years after it developed, so survival couldn't be the driving force - it was rather an unexpected effect of something that was developed as means of competing sexually.

Without a doubt - Sex. Just looking at technological advancement, the one thing that drives, or soon consumes a technology is sex... VHS - porn in your own home, Cable - wider choice of porn without having to visit the shop, Internet - free porn, lots of porn and the opportunity to hook up to make your own porn without leaving the house. Even with the invention of the toaster, sex was the driving force...what better than toast ready to eat in the same amount of time as a quicky, without having to flip the bread under the grill?

I think the sex factor is the biggest contribution to society, we need to reproduce for our species to survive aswell as the bonds males and females create when sexual intercourse happens

Our finest instincts are for water, survival and intercourse. without those the human race could have died out years in the past, nutrients is significant yet we are in a position to stay without it for a definite volume of time.

wow ! this cartier guy is scary ! I voted the thumb up for his effort !
I vote food. I really like sex but I can't think of sex when I'm hungry so I think food is a more basic instict. Also, you can die without food but you can't die without sex.
