"You know that point in your life when you realize that the house that you grew up in isn't really your home anymore? All of the sudden even though you have some place where you can put your stuff that idea of home is gone. You'll see when you move out it just sort of happens one day one day and it's just gone. And you can never get it back. It's like you get homesick for a place that doesn't exist. I mean it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for you kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something. I miss the idea of it. Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people who miss the same imaginary place."

You ever feel like this?

I lost the sense of home when I was 13. My mom died and just like that, it didn't feel like home anymore. It took 15 yrs to finally feel like I belonged somewhere and get that "home" feeling back....but in a different way. Good question. Thank you :)

Because I've lived in 30+ homes over the last 30+ years...I cannot actually relate to how you're feeling about a physical space. As cliched as it sounds, for me, home is where the heart is. So everywhere I go is "home" and there isn't anything imaginary about it...it's just "there" in my heart.

I agree with you.
I feel my house is a home, but it isn't the exact "Home" I want.
I have material things, but no one to share them with. I'm married
and my spouse is great, but something is missing.
I'm missing a certain type of fun & happiness that only exist in my
"Memories". I long for scrabble games with my brother, like when
we were teenagers. I miss dinner with my "Mom". I miss waiting
to use the toilet because someone else beat me to it.
I miss things that only certain people can provide. I guess that's
what "They" mean when they say,'You can't go home again'.
