It seems like most Democrats & Republicans top priority is getting reelected, rather than what is best for the country.

yep it's so true. I have been voting more and more Libertarian, on a local level. But I am scared to death that if I vote Libertarian for president or congress the libs might win and if they win we might as well learn how to ride a camel and get used to eating donkey burgers if the terrorists allow us to live. But seriously I don't think that the majority of people are stupid I think they are too lazy to take the time to look into issues and pick the best man for the job. I don't trust the democrats because I think they are in their own little world and don't have a clue as to how to run a country in these times. I am very disappointed in the Republicans on social issues except the tax breaks. Conservative ideology is for smaller government I thought. I see more of our hard earned money spent on growing government bigger and faster then ever before. I have talked with all of my family and friends at length on these things trying to promote the libertarian ideas on a lot of things. Just hoping that it sticks. I don't know what else I can do.

your second line is exactly right. once elected those bastards have exactly one purpose in life: GETTING RE-ELECTED.
as to the libertarians, people get so stuck in either the D or R party that they can't see anything else. they have no idea what the 2 are doing to this country.

my new slogan is: CONGRESS: 1 DOWN, 534 TO GO

Why do you think a libertarian would be any different? You can call a turkey a chicken, but you still have a turkey. Institute term limits for congress, one term and out.

Seriously? Because for one, their views are a bit too radical for most people's tastes. Two, even for those who might agree with them, they're hesitant to 'throw away' their vote, especially in any major election, for a party that has no chance in heck of winning.

Well duh, how can you do what's best for the country if you don't get re-elected?
That's why the third parties never get elected; they're too worried about what's best for the country!

And here, sir, you have what is wrong with our system.
How to fix it?

because nobody likes a loser. Why throw your vote away when you could make a real difference instead?
