Eventually, Sun stock will come back, at least for a while. Think about a dead cat bounce (i.e. if you drop even a dead cat from a large enough height, it will bounce). I also think that now that it has a new CEO and has moved away from proprietary operating systems, they may have a better chance to come back.

I like Sun a lot, but I don't think Sun will be a major player in the future. Sun workstations with Solaris used to be the standard for high-powered desktop computers, but with the way PCs (Dell) have been going and the specialization of PCs (Apples for design ...) Sun (like IBM) moved into services. Services primarily associated with Java deployment.

Java's a big hit, but I think for many reasons it's not the end-all (especially with .NET gaining ground), which leaves Sun without a clear means of moving the technology industry, especially with respect to online services.

I still think technology's a bit overvalued right now, but Sun's probably among the toughest buys in the sector.
