What is the best way to prevent corrosion underneath my car ?

I live in the UK and have a 4 year old car, can anyone recommend the best way of reducing corrosion under the car. I have heard getting it sprayed with oil or spraying on waxoyl can help, can I do these things myself or is a job for a garage?

They make undercoating that the common consumer can use. It can also be professionaly done. Hit your local parts store and ask about it.

The obvious remedy would be to put it away during the winter and keep it away from salt, but obviously you can't do that! The best way is to smother the floor and underarch areas with waxoyl or dinitrol and pump this stuff into the box sections as well (Sills, chassis members, etc.) . It might be a good idea also to peel back the trim inside the boot/luggage compartment and pour some rust converter around the wheelarch joint in there to kill any rust that might be there and then shove your waxoyl in there once the rust converter has dried. It is a time consuming and messy job, so if you don't fancy it, you could book it into a specialist place like Ziebart or similar. One other product you can put on your car to make the floor less vulnerable is a product called epoxy mastic, which is available from a company called Rustbuster (Google em', you'll get the web addy). The mastic is a tough sealant you paint onto your floor and it is supposed to be waterproof and salt proof, and it won't dry out, crack or split. You are doing a good thing, if you plan to keep the car a long time, maybe we will see it on Ebay in 20 years time!!!

Waxoyl is the answer without a doubt. Ideally it needs to be sprayed-on with something like a Schutz Gun and compressed-air from a compressor, but Waxoyl do some quite effective pump-up and spray kits. You need to coat the entire underside, and get inside all the cavities, the sills, door pillars, any box-sections under the car, inside the doors... everywhere. For the average car, 10 to 15 litres will do it, just plaster the thing.

I dont know if this is available in the UK,but in the US, there is an undercoating treatment for cars that is found in some commercial automated carwashes.

Well, you can take it to an auto undercoating shop or you can wirebrush the underside of the car yourself and buy several cans of undercoating at an auto parts store and apply it yourself. I've done it myself. good luck

spray underbody coat you can do it yourself but make sure the car is cool to the touch cause the spray is very flammable

Wash the car often.

If you want to buy undercoat, fine. Or youcould just wash the undercarriage often.
