To set the record straight on this matter.
It is NOT an article of Islamic faith, nor a religious law that women MUST wear a veil. It comes from a very old custom that had a valid reason to the muslins in Arabia at the time. This is where the custom began and this is why.
Even before Muhammad's time, there were many tribes living in the Arabian Desert and the surrounding areas. These tribes were alway at each other's throats for one reason or another (much like today, if you know your tribal histories). They would raid each others camps and tribal lands and take whatever they wanted or desired. This included women. Naturally, they want the most beautiful women for their own harems and slaves. To combat this the males of the tribes put their women into veils so the raiders would have to "catch as catch can" and take the chance of grabbing those not so desireable. Remember that these raids were not slow, deliberate raids, but fast striking - get in, grab, and get out as quickly as possible to keep from being killed.
And that is how the custom of the veil came into being. I might add that there were then and are now very few women that resent wearing the veil, especially in public. Many of the girls in their late teens and early twenties that are not married are able to go to the souks and othwer meeting places and watch the young men without anyone knowing they are doing something forbidden by law.

Yes, unless they can prove that it is their own decision to wear them. If you read books written by women who live in fundamental Muslim countries, many hate their veils. It should be a woman's right to wear what they want, not because their husbands or brothers tell them what to wear.
We've fought for equality of the sexes in this country and I find it offensive to see veiled women.

Yes the should have to take off their veils. If we live or even stay in a Muslim Country we would have to live by their rules. If they go to their place of worship or have some sort of celibration then I see no harm in them wearing their garb to attend that.

A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Yes. You never see animals walking around with veils and all sorts of rags covering them. It's a good job we don't see that otherwise we wouldn't know whether it is a wolf or a sheep that's coming in our direction...

No...
Wearing veils is human right...
It related to their religion and belief..
So I don't think others should change it or make them take off their veils.

One thing we are all forgetting here is... They shouldnt be here in the first place! This is England not a multinational country where people from other countries have more freedom than us English.
It comes to something when we cannot say or do certain things incase we upset different religions...how much further will it go?
If you come to live in this counrty then you should abide by our laws and cultures.
Muslim women SHOULD take off their veils, its not compulsory to wear it anyway. In Jordan it is illegal. How many Bowler hats do you see in Muslim countries?... same rule applies.
But back to what i was saying beofre... they shouldnt be here... unless they have something to give... like be skilled in a job.

In Western countries where the convention is for people to show their faces when they speak to one another they should. In Muslim countries they shouldn't have to.
Jack Straw is right - wearing veils highlights a difference between cultures. If Muslims want to live in and be accepted by western societies then they should adopt western customs and follow western laws.
If they don't like it then there are plenty of Muslim countries who will allow them to wear the veil and they should go and live there.

Actually, Islam doesn't say that muslim women should cover their faces with veil, but only their hair with a head scarf. Covering faces with veil is only tradition of some islamic countries.
