The GMAT exam measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills that you have developed over a long period of time in your education and work. It does NOT measure:

your knowledge of business, your job skills, specific content in your undergraduate or first university course work, your abilities in any other specific subject area, or subjective qualities—such as motivation, creativity, and interpersonal skills.

The Quantitative Section:
This section contains 37 multiple-choice questions of two question types—Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 minutes to complete the entire section.

I would look on the gmat website to get more information (www.gmat.org)

It was a long time ago that I took this test. I remember a lot of long passages describing some business situation. You were then asked questions based on the test. I don't think of it as math word problems exclusively, but there is an element of that. Sorry I can't tell you more, I just don't remember.

Good luck on it.

Practice, practice practice. Sooner or later it will become second nature and that's when you can quickly answer them.

Anyone can do fine with a lot of practice (doing really well is a diff story).
Good luck!
