Usually around 6 months.

My son is 4 months and he always holds on to it and will pull it in and out of his mouth. However he can't hold it on his own but he sure tries!

9 months. I had to get some of those Playtex Ventaire and that is what he started holding first. They are shorter and wider so I thought that would help him get a better hold of it.

My grandaughter is 5 mo. and started to try at 4 mo. Just place his/her little hands on it while your still holding on to it and they get the idea pretty fast. She does it now if I place her hands on it.
