The hierarchy of the Republican Party within Congress has known that Rep. Foley is a homosexual, but did not come forth with this information, fearing that it could damage his reputation. One week ago, we learned that Rep. Foley had been sending explicit IMs to former Congressional pages. Now, the Democrats are all over the Republicans for not coming forth with the information that Foley is a homosexual, and furthermore, for not reducing his contact with male pages. Had the leadership within the Republican Party outed Foley as a homosexual, and thusly forced him out of Congress, the Democrats would have been all over them for being "homophobes." Now, they are all over the Republicans because they weren't "homophobic" enough in dealing with the Foley situation when it first came to light. Now that there is this, it is a "cover up." Yet, when there is a scandal within the Democratic Party, and Republicans jump all over it, it is dismissed as a "vast right-wing conspiracy." Why???

You are absolutely correct. Democrats will attack the Republicans no matter what they do. But when something comes out on themselves they'll defend it till the end. Remember Clinton? It was a personal thing. His personal life is no ones business. Why aren't they saying the same things now?

First of all, the most people I see on the news disgracing Foley and Hastert are Republicans. They have been the ones to call Foley horrible along with a long list of other names. If this were 1 year ago, they would be telling the American public that they are going to stand by him because he's only human and he made a mistake. But now that votes hang in the balance, they want to crucify him every chance they get. I believe that was Jeb Bush I saw on Fox News today calling Foley despicable. I believe Tony Snow referred to his actions as terrible and deplorable. The only Democrat I hear discussing this issue is Nancy Pelosi and that is because she is the Democratic minority leader. She has to make herself visible during a scandal like this. I wish both parties would tell the pediphile to get back in the closet until the police come to get him out. That way they could get back to the real issues affecting this country.

Sadly, both parties and most politicians live by double-standards.
But you're wrong that most Democrats are 'all over this.' Most, from what I've heard, aren't attacking the Republican Party but are addressing the fact that many Republicans knew about Foley's sickness and did nothing to prevent it. There's a difference here. And Republicans should be even more angry at their own people for the cover-up.
But Democrats are certainly not saints and I'm sure they've covered up, or tried to cover up, their own dirty laundry in the past.

There are loads of gay men who do not annoy children, in fact, most don't. The vast majority don't. Did you know the Republican leadership warned Republican pages about Foley, but never warned the Democratic pages? There simply is no good reason for that, absolutely none. It is a disgrace, they knew he was interested in boys but chose to play it politically, warn their own, and just leave the Democratic boys to find out on their own. An absolute disgrace. Please do not waste your time or your breath trying to blame this on the Democrats. It won't fly this time. Take some responsibility for once in your sorry lives, for the consequences of your acts. Shame on the g.o.p.
And for those of you who might not have been paying attention: Monica was an ADULT, and She came on to Bill--there is a world of difference between consenting as an adult to sex with someone who initiates the contact, and annoying minors who are not interested. Please grow up, quit trying to fool yourselves. Its Foley, not you, what reflects badly on you is not Foley, its your sad pathetic lame attempt to play mind games to rationalize it. Just accept it, he screwed up. Period.

Dems are NOT all over the Repubs because they didn't come forth with information that Foley was gay.
It's not a 'gay' issue.....how many times do we have to tell you people that?
...........it was that he was sending explicit sexual IMs to UNDERAGE interns.
It has NOTHING to do with Foley being gay.
It has EVERYTHING to do with Foley's sexual advances toward an underage person, and his cronies swept it under the rug and did nothing.
That's the problem with republicans....they bash gay people for years on end and then this happens ....and they just fumble horrifically. It's funny. Really.

Unfortunately, both parties will go with whatever ever side of the coin serves their needs. They will turn directions, like a leaf blowing in the wind, if it will bring down the other side. Its all about the percieved advantage they can get in an election year.
The democrats do set the standard for the double standard, however, because of the more liberal mainstream media that will pick it up and run with it. If it was the repulicans trying to work the story, it would be like back page news.
If I were both parties....I let each other police themselves, and allow the country to vote for them on what they stand for.....not for what they did or didn't do.
Thank you for the 2 points.

because of the fact republicans are the social gathering of the religioius precise and communicate a minimum of like they own the Bible. Its basically slamming the Pharisees for the hypocrites they're. Its the reason Republicans are those making each and every of the noise approximately Rev Wright, and attempting to declare adult males like Falwell and Robertson and Hagee and comments made by using Billy Graham and the ensue destiny doctrine of the Mormon Church do no longer rely. those comments do rely. and are even a reason many republicans belong to those church homes, and join those preachers point of view.

If he were a democrat, would they have covered up his homosexuality? It sure wouldn't have been as important. If that wasn't a secret, then it wouldn't be an issue. It has nothing to do with the inappropriate IM's.
If you are going to argue, you have to understand your opponent. You need to think for yourself. Don't just take what people tell you at face value. Don't be a sheep.

It's not because they weren't 'homophobic' enough! It was because Foley appeared to be a sexual predator! It would not matter one bit if the pages had been girls. Don't try to shift the guilt over to the Dems. The Repugs kept it quiet and they knew!

I think you've been watching the 700 club a little too much. Speaking of double standards...why are you playing the 'blame game' ....remember that one?
The answer is no.
BTW: If it had been a female page instead, would that have made it okay for the repub leadership to cover it up?
