You need a bus or switch. A bus interface box will probably be less expensive. If you are security conscious, then running an ethernet cable from the bus interface upstairs through the walls and floor to the computer downstairs would be the most secure. Another option would be to purchase an interface that permits you to utilize your AC house wiring via your room outlets. The ethernet cable from your DSL is connected to your bus, then another ethernet cable from the bus to an interface at the AC wall outlet. You will need another interface in the downstairs room where the other computer is located. You will connect an ehternet cable to that interface and the other end to the NIC plug on the downstairs computer.
Another options would be to purchase a Wireless Access Point and a wireless NIC. The wireless Access Point adapter usually has addition ethernet ports, but you plug the DSL ethernet cable into the Wireless Access Point adapter and another ethernet cable from the Wireless Access Point to your upstairs computer. The wireless NIC card is installed in the downstairs computer so that it can communicate with the Wireless Access Point located upstairs.

Get a wireless router, like the one mentioned above (Linksys WRT54G). Also, if your downstairs computer doesn't have one, you will need a wireless card like the WMP54G. From then on, it's just a matter of reading the instructions.
Both pieces of hardware can be purchased from the nearest Best Buy

You need to go buy a router. Just go to best buy or wherever and tell them you need a wireless internet router. It will cost about $50 and you need to buy a wireless card for the computer you want to connect the internet connection to. That will also be about $25 or so.

hmm with no dragging i cant think of anything EXCEPT one thing. my parents have a wireless dsl in their room and i have a wireless internet card. its worth it even if you will change the dsl. wireless cards cost from $20 to $120 but the internet connection if totally free. internet cards come in type of USB or cards itself for laptops. i wouldnt recommend a cheap wireless card because they might have problems in the future. what i like is the D-Link wireless card. if my parents turn off the dsl i switch to my neighbors internet connection :P
