If used properly condoms are 99.9% effective.
That means 99.9% of the time sperm will not go through the condom. That doesn't mean that .1% of the time you have sex she will get pregnant, it just means it won't stop it 0.1% of the time.
The above guy talking about AIDS has no idea what he is talking about. AIDS is not a STD. HIV is.
AIDS is the disease caused by HIV. Latex condoms are the only way to prevent the transmission of HIV during sex.

hun, I'm sorry to say that yes, Sperm (and the HIV virus) are capable of getting through the condom. It is very rare, but it can happen. Condoms *when used corretly* are effective for whatever percent of the time that the box says.
Overal, when you factor in human error, like tears, using an old one, or having it slip off, condoms are really only effective 70% of the time. I suggest using spermicidal jelly with the condom if you want to catch the ones that get away. That's only 80% effective if used correctly, however two b/c methods are better than one!
And, if you want to be even more cautious, go on the pill. If you go on the pill, make sure you wait a month for the hormones to work before you have unprotected sex. Otherwise you might have a surprise nine months later.
Hope I answered your birth control questions. If you have anymore, make a visit to planned parenthood.

The percentage they give you for "failure" is from the idea that not everyone will use the condom correctly. The condom can break, can fall off in the woman, using the wrong kind of lube with the condom, or some people will use the condom after insertion but before ejaculation. Sperm does not go through the condom if you follow the directions properly.

Here's an answer from personal experience... I've gotten pregnant more than once using condoms that did not break or tear, and were used properly. They also were not all the same brand. So I would say that yes, sperm can go through condoms that don't break, tear, rip or slip off.

Sperm does not go through latex condoms. However there have been cases where sperm has gotten through lambskin condoms. AIDS can get through condoms, the virus is very small, and the pores in the latex are just big enough for AIDS to slip through. So condoms do not protect against AIDS.

No, sperm can no longer pass by using an intact condom. The failure fee is accounted for by rips and by incorrect use - like putting it on after genital-to-genital touch has been initiated, or no longer pulling out jointly as the penis continues to be erect allowing leaks, or making use of innapropriate lubricants like petroleum jelly or something no longer water-based, which will weaken the latex.

Sperm can not travel through condoms, the 5% is from tears or other misuse.
FYI, you can only get pregnant if you are fertile, so if you can keep track of your cycle and know when you are fertile, you can take extra precautions those days. Read the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility'

Yes sperm can go through condoms. The only 100% is abstinence.
