Rather than going to their local small claims court, what makes these people call the show and decide to share their case to a large U.S. audience? Just curious. Greetings! =)

because it is only$25 to file, no lawyers are allowed in the court room and they get a chance to put the defendants on national tv and embarass them even if they don't win everyone who watches will know and recognize them if they live close by. It's cheaper than getting an attorney and paying out the a** for a reason you really don't need to.

I was under the impression that the cases are selected by the show's producers, and you don't ask to have your case heard on TV. But I think the participants are paid from a fund (based on the maximum small claims lawsuit allowed), split equally after the dispute is settled. For example, if the fund is $5,000, and the plaintiff wins a lawsuit for $1,000, he gets $3,000 and the losing defendant gets $2,000.

I think that is why the losers aren't as horribly upset with the result as you might expect. They don't actually have to pay anything, and most likely even make some money out of it.

jointly as the circumstances on decide Judy are somewhat small claims lawsuits, the tutor isn't a courtroom of regulation, yet somewhat an arbitration, and all events could sign contracts agreeing to arbitration below Sheindlin. Even this prestige has been disputed: in Doo Wop Shoppe Ltd. v. Ralph Edwards, syndi-courtroom justice replaced into desperate to no longer be an somewhat form of arbitration because of the fact a 0.33 social gathering will pay area of the fee of the judgment. This determination replaced into consequently overturned.

Any shot at anything that resembles a celebrity on tv is unfortunatley a motivating force for a lot of people.
