Hi there. I have a Pentium 3 notebook which i hope to access the wireless broadband, which type of adapter will you recommend me: PCMCIA or USB?

Some of my considerations will be i am not sure if my notebook (about 4 yrs old) support USB 2.0 and technically speaking is USB much stable and faster compare to PCMCIA?

I also have a Pentium 4 desktop (without wireless capability too).

lastly, what does it mean unsecure broadbank access?

thank you for yout time and help in advance. i need to go to buy the adapter in 1/2 hour time.

I've had troubles getting USB dongles to configure properly. I've never had any troubles with the PC Card (the new name for PCMCIA) adapters.
Unsecured broadband access is an access point that doesn't have any security enabled. Anyone passing by can hook up to it.

I would go for the USB Wireless Adapter. You can use it on both the Laptop and the Desktop computer. I would assume that the network hasn't been secured against the public connecting to the network. Most people Secure their wireless networks using WEP and the like.

usb, newer standard, PCMCIA redundant

does not have to, not a powered device, and yes

unsecure broadband access is I assume a reference to a wireless network that is not protected by an encryption solution such as WEP or WPA, not something you want because other people can use your network signal for free

PC card.
Not only does the PCMCIA slot do a better job of handling any type of network adapter, it also frees up your notebooks USB slot for other uses.

i have a LinkSys wireless router and pcmcia, works fabulous. btw, wireless g routers and b cards are compatable. And unsecured means any pc within range can access the service.

Go with the USB. Your computer will have the USB port.
Unsecured broadband is not secure, meaning what is transmitted over it could be read by others.
