As far as why they call them children's gardens, couldn't tell ya, but that's the translation.
Eggman's got a good point, I was thinking maybe a children's garden would be like a playground type place, but like his idea better.

Friedrich Froebel was the German guy who founded the kindergarten first.He wanted day care facilities to be a happy place like a garden so he called the place kindergarten which means children's garden.
