rico-my question doesn't posit that you had some choice in why you were born into this time, it asks you to ponder why

BECAUSE I'M AWESOME.
Really, though, I think it might be because I'm very interested in Physcis and probably couldn't get a decent physics-related job at any other time other than the Enlightenment. :D

What makes you think I wasn't born into a time of lesser knowledge and possibility? you question posits that I had some choice in the matter. Perhaps I've been choosing the be reborn again and again. I figure the ectoplasm that made up Caesar and Cleopatra must have been massive, and many millions of bits of that ectoplasm have been being reborn ever since. Because somehow, everyone who has past life regressions seems to be either a Caesar or a Cleo. No one ever seems to recover memories from a past life where they were a slave or a peasant. If I made a choice to be born now, I don't recall it. However, I'm pretty glad I made it to the show at this juncture. From what I've read of history, now is the best time ever for being just a normal Joe person. Back in the past you had to be upper upper echelon to be living a decent life. Now, even a schlub like me can do okay.

No reason. And not everything needs a reason.
You make a good point about times when there was less knowledge & possibilities/opportunities. But as these things generally increase over time, one could just as easily ask, "Why wasn't I born more into the future, to a time of _greater_ knowledge & possibilities?"
And actually, I really do sometimes regret being born in this day and age. I look around me and I see an immature species which still has far to go in its evolution. Humans are still highly irrational creatures, prone to petty wars, superstitious thinking and still needy of their flawed religions & governments. I wish I could have been born in a time when we've moved beyond all this crap, to a time when our emotions no longer dominate our thinking and we have become true masters of our fates. Until then, I'll just have to live among the naked apes and scrape together enough for a cryonics suspension so that I can live in that brighter future.

In the future, this will be the time of lesser knowledge or possibility.
Compared to the people of the distant future, we are just as disadvantaged as the people of the distant past were compared to us.
This and other questions you've posted suggest that you seem to think there is something significant about our existence here and now.
There isn't. Why should there be? Our circumstances are no more or less important than those of the billions of people who preceded us, or the billions who will succeed us.
