The media is already very controlled by owners, lobbyists, politicians, government and the law...what more do you want? One thing we all know about media, especially news and hosts like Glenn Beck, ignore 90 % of what you hear or see and carefully question the other 10%.
We need more freedom of the media and much , much more investigative supported reporting instead of the 13 second cost nothing and cheap thrill pieces.

What you and I think about control of the media is moot. The First Amendment to the U. S. Constitution affords the media and individuals "freedom of speech".

Universities and colleges are educating graduates of their "Law Colleges" to uphold and/or question this amendment. Do you think lawyers should be controlled by someone other than the American Bar Association? Nothing in the U.S. Constitution affords lawyers with "freedom" of anything. Lawyers are responsible for upholding the "laws of the land", just as doctors are held responsible for upholding the "Hypocratic Oath".

When a lawyer loses a case, they are not subjected to scrutiny for their actions or behavior. When a doctor loses a patient, they are subjected to law suits. Teachers in the U. S. are held responsible for the education of their students. If a student refuses to complete assignments, tells the teacher "I don't have to do the assignments or homework you assign", does the teacher have a "right" to report this to the media and not lose his/her job?

When a doctor prescribes treatment for a patient, and that patient dies, does that doctor have any constitutional rights to protect his diagnosis and treatment against a law suit?

The founding father's concept of "freedom of speech" and the First Amendment were predicated on the fact that they wanted to break from the monarchy of England and wanted to be free to speak their mind without fear of retaliation, which could result in imprisonment or death.

Yes, I believe the media should be controlled and held to the same criteria, standards, and accountability that the medical and educational community is.

The mainstream media is out of control in the US and is so blatantly political is nauseating to watch any of the network news, except perhaps for Fox news.
Their hatred of Bush and desire to lead the direction of upcoming elections is apparent on a daily basis. True, facts, respect and fairness are term that are totally foreign to TV and major newspapers in this country.

Thank God for people like Beck.

Yes, all media should be owned by the government. If the media can be controlled so can information. The govenment could then choose what we should believe.

Or you could have laws that create the offence of impeding an emergency vehicle (in fact most places already do)... either way.

that's not the media, that's the individual reporters that are being stupid. as far as controlling the media? its already controlled. why don't we see the real death and suffering going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, like what was shown during the Viet Nam war?? the REAL important news is being diluted so to not upset the soccer moms and and afternoon joggers

Free Information in a free society must never be controlled but when reporters impede rescue workers and law enforcement, holding them accountable for their actions in no way violates their freedom of Press.

I don't think it should be controlled, it should be a "free press".

Question is, is today's press truly "free"? In one sense, it's controlled by the appetite of it's viewers/readers and it's commercial sponsors. Some media sources only show what they think will be good for business or bottom line.

YES YES YES
they should know what's their limits. If they are in the way of rescue, they should be ban from filming in the same helicopter or sue them if they are in the way of any life & death. also, if they are intruding the privacy of anybody, they should be sue too, and either jail or fine heavily.

in that sense yes by all means, I hope those people that did that get deported to a third world country and are left to fend for themselves, what they did was rude and inconsiderate and assinine, however the media is already controlled to a certain extent which I wish it weren't

If you have Gov't runned news then you will be sure that there's censorship. Somehow I see something wrong with that, because with Gov't runned news the media is blocked from freedom of speech.
