it filters out dust and other particles from the airsteam before it enters the engine so you don't get premature engine wear due to dirt.
Yes, it is just popping off the box top and dropping a new one in

The air filter is an important component in the engine system
which requires fresh and clean air to mix with fuel to start a
good combustion for the smooth running of the car's engine.
The air filter's job is to filter all the dust particles including dirt
from getting into the combustion system via the carburetor and
it allows only clean air to pass through.
It is easy to change the air filter. Just open the top screw of the
filter cover pan and flip up the 3 clips at the sides. Remove the
cover and take out the used air filter. In its place, put in a new
one, close it tight with the cover, turn the top screw and side
clips in position.

I encourage you to do it yourself since it's relatively easy and cheap rather than taking your car to automotive shops. A new filter will cost you $12 to $13. Here is a general way to change your air filter: You'll need a screwdriver socket and ratchet set. 1. Remove the mounting screws/release the clips from the filter box cover. 2. Remove the old air filter from the filter box. Remember the direction the filter is facing for installation reference. 3. Vacuum out the filter box then wipe it down with a damp cloth if it is dirty. NEVER USE a compressed air to clean the filter box assembly. 4. Install the new air filter into the filter box. 5. Secure the cover. 6. Check the air intake and vacuum hoses for cracks. 7. Ensure the hose connections to the filter box cover are secure. Below is a link to a video on how to change your air filter. Hope it helps you. :)

in order for you engine to run the gasoline is mixed with air in just the right proportion in a device called a carborator. The air must be filtered to make sure it is clean... otherwise the dirt and dust would get into the engine's oil and muck it all up. You don't really need a filter to run the engine but it keeps it cleaner and running more efficiently for a longer period of time.

your engine is basically an air pump & it likes lots of clean air. the filter stops dirt from entering the engine by collecting it. if it gets too full, it can hurt mileage, performance and even engine life. some are very easy to change, others can be a little tricky. if you have an owners manual, look in the maintenance section. most manuals will show you how its done and how often to replace it

That part is easy and cheap to replace. Keep in mind that when you are cruising along, the air is sucked into you engine like a vacuum cleaner, so it needs a clean filter to operate properly.

your carburetor "inhales" air. before this air is taken into the carburetor, it passes thru an air filter which prevents small dust particles from being "inhaled" thus preventing fuel contamination & clogging of the jets in your carb. yes these filters are very easy to change. they're simply remove & replace. if you have an air compressor, try blowing the filter from the inside out. you'll save money this way.

It keeps not just dirt and dust, but a LOT of other crap from getting sucked into the engine. Bugs, leaves, trash, everything you drive through can get sucked into the air intake. Not only does it get into the oil, but it can also clog the caburetor or fuel injection system. It's easy to change. Just make sure you get the right one for your vehicle.

Very easy to change as long as you have the right tools and it helps your engine to breathe. It needs the air to go through the engine to mix the gas.
