Brainwashing is a conscious attempt to control an individual's mind to believe in a specific concept; whether religious or political. Brainwashing became a "by-word" during the Korean War when many American, British, and other soldiers captured by the North Koreans were held in captivity and tortured to disclaim America or reveal strategic military information.

If you are a member of a church or religion, or are attending a church of such a religion that depends on "brain washing", I would suggest you find another. Churches or religions that rely on "brain washing" do not have my respect, nor should they have yours.

Personally, I was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years. I was not "brain washed". Eight years ago, I began instruction in the Catholic Church, of which I am now a member. I was not "brain washed". I found peace within myself. I can ask for nothing more, and the Church asks nothing more from me.

I'm really interested as to why you would ask this question. If a "church" is able to brainwash people, then what do you think? It's because the person has no strong beliefs. Someone that knows what they believe and has goals in life, would not be brainwashed by a cult. I say that, but I know that intelligent people around the world are probably conned into many things, so I would say, that a "church" that preys on the vulnerable, is the church that brainwashes people and is not genuine. A real church doesn't have that in their vocabulary and allow people to choose for themselves,

It's a power trip, they want to have control over every aspect of the lives of others. They prey on the gullible, the lonely, the vulnerable. And, these are not truly churches, merely organized money grabbers. I say this from personal observation. Also, just because the name "church" is on a building does not make it a church.

you need to specify what churches you're talking about. Jim Jones did it for control purposes. I think David Koresh did it because he was genuinely delusional. Jim Baker you may argue did it for money, but it's debatable whether or not he actually brainwashed people.

The church leaders need total control so they can guarantee their finances. They strive for a cult feeling of us against them. I know lots of victims of this. Very tragic!

because some ppl are brainwashable. The churches know the easy targets so zoom in on them for their own gain. Maybe simply to attract more "followers"?
