Bhagavad Gita

This book sets out, in story form, the proper way to behave and think. Among the principles it puts forward are:

One should live appropriately for the life (and caste) into which one is born.
One should be devoted to the form of God known as Krishna.
One should trust Krishna totally, relying on his benevolence, and acting out of devotion to him.
One's actions should be chosen by the inherent value of those actions, not by any hoped-for benefits from them.

The Gita is a doctrine of universal truth. Its message is universal, sublime, and non-sectarian although it is a part of the scriptural trinity of Sanaatana Dharma, commonly known as Hinduism. The Gita is very easy to understand in any language for a mature mind. A repeated reading with faith will reveal all the sublime ideas contained in it. A few abstruse statements are interspersed here and there but they have no direct bearing on practical issues or the central theme of Gita.

The Gita deals with the most sacred metaphysical science. It imparts the knowledge of the Self and answers two universal questions: Who am I, and how can I lead a happy and peaceful life in this world of dualities. It is a book of yoga, the moral and spiritual growth, for mankind based on the cardinal principles of Hindu religion.

The message of Gita came to humanity because of Arjuna's unwillingness to do his duty as a warrior, because fighting involved destruction and killing. Nonviolence or Ahimsa is one of the most fundamental tenets of Hinduism. All lives, human or non-human, are sacred. This immortal discourse between the Supreme Lord, Krishna, and His devotee-friend, Arjuna, occurs not in a temple, a secluded forest, or on a mountain top but on a battlefield on the eve of a war and is recorded in the great epic, Mahaabhaarata. In Gita Lord Krishna advises Arjuna to get up and fight. This may create a misunderstanding of the principles of Ahimsa if the background of the war of Mahaabhaarata is not kept in mind. Therefore, a brief historical description is in order.

Well, I do believe in Lord Krishna's Gita. In fact, the truth is Lord Krishna had transmitted the entire Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna in just 5 minutes, a feat which has'nt been repeated again. If Lord Krishna had gone to teach Arjuna the " BHAGAVAD-GITA " in the manner in which it is being imparted today by the various GITA experts, he would have taken hrs to reform Arjuna....and by that time, Duryodhana & Dushasana would have attacked an unarmed Arjuna and the MAHABHARATA would have ended then & there without an arrow being fired.....As for me, I have read the Bhagavad-Gita & do try to live life accordingly as prescribed in the Gita. However, there are a few teachings in the Bhagavad-Gita which have been wrongly altered by vested interests over the period of thousands of years. I request u to e-mail to me on dyasno1@yahoo.com as I will send u the few areas which have been altered & what the real teachings actually were !

= Go on doing your duties. Believe in Me. I will ensure that no sins accrue to you while performing your DUTIES. Don't worry.
--> We will be serving this world/society better only by performing our prescribed duties. We need not bother about others views. If it is favourable to them then only they consider it as a good deed. But our Lord knows what is good. He actually gives the results. He loves much those who discharge their duies sincerely. We have to believe Him and go on doing our duties. He will definetely give us a better position when we are alive and after death also
I did my duties sincerely. I came to a better position crossing my 11 colleagues/seniors just before I retire. For my sake only there was a change in that policy from the top level to which we have no access.
