I haven't ever known anyone to leave here to another country, but I have known many who come here. Everyone really seems to like it. I haven't ever heard any big complaints about it. Every says you learn so much and it is the experience of a lifetime. I have a friend who moved to Germany and married an exchange student who came here. Oh I did know a girl I went to school with who went and studied in Japan for awhile. The only thing I ever heard her say about it really was to choose your country wisely and make sure you know their language well. She has gone back and visited her friends and people there.

A couple of good friends in high school were foreign exchange students. I kind of wish I had switched schools earlier and had the money for participating though. I think it's great to have foreign exchanges. It's hard to be ignorant when you're completely immersed in another society for as long as the exchange students are. The biggest cons are the expenses and being far from family.

If your parents are rich and you have too many siblings and nobody is bothered about your presence, its a great idea to be a foreign student. From here, one will value and treasure its own homeland, own country and own family in exchange for the experience in being a foreign exchange student. The con is that if the particular individual is a simple minded person who is easily influenced, there is a tendency to go off the hook.

I am at the moment an exchange student!! I was studying in Vancouver for 2 years and found it really difficult to study and work to pay for my school fees. And since I also have a European Union passport I went to Dublin, Ireland to study. There I paid way less school fees than in Canada and was also able to work for a much higher wage. So I was able to afford to live on my own and study. I did not have a scholarship or grant, nor are my parents rich. I was able to do it all on my own. Something that I was not able to do in Canada.
Right now I am studying in Berlin, my University in Dublin sent me for a year to Berlin on an exchange. I have been in Berlin for one week now and I am liking it!!
So I would recommend to anyone from North America to spend some time studying and living in Europe!!
