I am 39 weeks sunday. About 35 weeks I found out I had gestational diabetes. Since then I have not been able to keep my sugar levels under control. They started me on insulin last night. Shouldnt they just induce me or schedule a c -section rather than have me do insulin shots this late in pregnancy? I am not overweight I am actually small framed. They want me to get an ultrasound done for the babys weight tomorrow. I just thought they would induce rather than start me on this so late. What does everyone think?

People with gestational diabetes are likely to have big babies. So maybe they just want to check his/her weight before hand, but your right, they could have done that at the hospital. I agree with you. If your doctor is the one doing the ultrasound say something about it, if not, see if you can get hold of him tomorrow, and ask why can't you just be induced since you are due anyway!
Good luck!
The babies lungs should be mature. Basically the last month is just to put on weight!!

Im surprised they didn't induce you. Like someone else mentioned people with gd tend to have bigger babies so I would think they would induce... Do you know approx how big the baby is? I would ask my Dr about this- especially since you are having a hard time with your levels... Call your Dr in the am and ask... and most of all Good Luck!!

Trust me, as much as you would like your pregnancy to be over(cause I've been there too) the doctors will do everything in their power to keep that baby in there till it's ready to come out. They think it's better for the baby because this is when their lungs develope. Good luck though

39 weeks?!?!

Yeah you would think they would just induce you..but maybe they are trying to get the blood sugars in check to make for an easier labor..that is the only thing I can think of...sometimes medicine is sooo confusing..

Good luck with your baby..
Go have sex or something..or do some nipple stimulation..put yourself into labor...lol..then no more pokes and needles..

Good luck hun~
