Absolutely a class act !
The Tigers are very lucky to have him !
And we're lucky for the opportunity to watch him work his magic
on a team that wasn't expected to go anywhere this season.
Look at them now!
Manager of the Year in my book!

I would have to say yes he is a class act in public. He is also a great motivator who tells it like it is without sugar coating.
One of the other answers mentioned leaving situations when times got rough. He left the Tigers when a minor league manager when offered a chance to coach 3rd base for Tony LaRussa & the White Sox. He left them to manage the Barry Bonds Pirates in the late 1980's to early 1990's. He became the manager of the Florkida Marlins, taking the youngest expansion team to the World Series and winning it all. After the Marlins got rid of all of their talent he helped develop he stayed on to experience the biggest drop of any World Series team ever. Then he moved to the Colorado Rockes for a short while and realized he was burned out, tired, and wanted to be with his family more. Now he is managing the Detroit Tigers, the organization he started in as a catcher many years ago.
So the man is in his 60's, he has worked been around baseball for 40 years and has been with only 5 organizations. I do not think you can fairly call him a job-hopper. The man is a loyal, class act.

before each little thing, Kenny Rogers gained sport 2 of the '06 international sequence (that sport the position he had a overseas substance on his hand and became dumb adequate to enable the FOX cameras %. it up. You undergo in recommendations that, proper?). second of all, if it were no longer for Jim Leyland, the Tigers would not in any respect have made the 2006 international sequence contained in the first position and he's a huge reason that the Detroit Tigers have their followers excited again about their crew and not in any respect pretty a lot breaking files for losses in a season. he's between the most respected managers contained in the game. he's a international Champion. He were given Barry Bonds to carry close him and wasn't afraid to scream at him at the same time as he had to. What do you recommend? They get some no-call guy from the minors? Jim Leyland is between the proper 5 coaches contained in the game at present.

Two great managers are playing for a chance to get into the World Series...Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers and Joe Torre of the New York Yankees...
I would share a cup of cappuccino with either one of those guys any day of the week...

I agree with Manager of the year. He is a classy guy
Joe Torre says of Leyland that he doesn't manage by the book but by the gut.
He took a team of mostly young guys and got them to playoffs . How good is that
Told his pitcher yesterday that he had his stuff and to just pitch. Get the Yankess out
