I was up to 75 mph on the M1 when my punto decided to slip out of fifth gear. I was not impressed as it continued to do so several more times and from around junction 11 to the end of the motorway I had to keep one hand on the gear stick in 5th and one on the wheel. It was less than a year ago I had to get a new gear box but I am now suspecting that they never actually replaced it or just swapped out some of the parts. Any helpful tips and where is reliable and cheap to get any work done in South East London?

It could be something as simple as a little adjustment but it could also mean a gearbox overall.without actually looking for myself my advice to you is get it checked.Because that could be dangerous if it happens to you on the motorway.I am not sure of where to go in your area i know it is more expensive but go to a Fiat dealer at least you will have peace of mind.If you lived next door to me i would gladly have a look LOL

does the tranny make a noise when going down the road. if so then what the problem is . the synchronizers in 5th gear are either worn out or getting that way. when you down shift does it make this grinding sound. id check into the synchronizers id be willing to bet that is your problem. and the location i have no idea. i live in the united states.

did it drop out of gear on the overun thats when you cruising or slowing or did it fly out on acceleration check the linkage first if it isnt that make sure you havent got an engine or g/box mount gone if none of them its the syncromesh and none of the g/box remanafacturers are worth a toss it would be bettert for you to get a 2nd hand box fitted
or tourch it and buy a proper car
