I mean physical traits, the way they look.. ofcourse the language is different.
And no, Chinese and Vietnamese are not the same ethnic... Their origins are different, eventhough Chinese had alot of influences over the Vietnaamese...

Yes, of course. I think it helps a lot the more people of different ethnicities that you know. I might not always be able to identify someone's background, but I can definitely tell when two people are not from the same one.
I would say that some people are just not paying attention.

Generally, as in almost always, I can tell the difference between
Japanese, Korean, Chinese & Filipino. A bit harder to distinguish between Southeast Asians based on looks alone. Fortunately, for me, I can distinguish many of the above based on language recognition. In the general sense, yes, I can distinguish Southeast Asians from the others but it is harder to distinguish them further among themselves. I can, however, distinguish the others from each other based solely on physical appearance.

Japanese are the prettiest and cleanest and smartest. They almost always have perfect skin. They strive for perfection and it shows.
Next is Chinese, also pretty women and good sanitation in areas. They also have nice skin but I think it depends on what region they are from.
Korean-your going down the line. The noses are getting wider.
Vietnamese-same thing further down the line (noses are getting wider), Vietnamese and Korean women have huge calve muscles and are only like 4'8 most of the time
Cambodians-further down (don't they eat dogs and cats or something)
Laos-further down, darker skin
Philippines-a mix of asian, malaysian, and spanish, and Aborigine, hence, the nose...need I say more
You get the picture. Most intelligent people familiar with culture characteristics can tell. It's the nose, the skin, body structure, etc
Also, those countries are also very diverse in economical status. You have money your going to look good, you don't when you are washing your clothes in a dirty river and eating fisheads 24/7.

It is easy to tell the Chinese from the Vietnamese. People from China will always speak Chinese and generally people from Vietnam speak Vietnamese.
